Proximity Malt, USA

« Proximity Malt embodies three key principles: local, sustainable, and committed. The vision behind this project was to create a regional company rooted in local grain production and sustainable logistics, in collaboration with local brewers. This new generation of malting company aligns perfectly with the craft brewing (r)evolution. In terms of geographical location, Colorado and Delaware, where our two malthouses were built, were a natural choice due to the production of malted barley and the strong presence of craft brewers.

To meet our ambitions, we knew we needed an environmentally-friendly, state-of-the-art roaster: the REVTECH VERY UNIQUE ROASTER. Proximity Malt became the first in North America to adopt this technology.

What makes our roaster unique? As maltsters, we must adhere to very specific guidelines, where each stage of the roasting process is crucial. Our technology faces challenges related to both the product and the environment, including:

Grain Integrity: The gentle propel system maintains grain integrity compared to traditional roasters.

Precision & Uniformity: Consistent processing conditions and precise control of temperature, moisture, and residence time ensure uniformity of the target roast.

Batch Consistency: The repeatability of precise recipes, gentle movement, and evenly applied heat ensure uniform roast from kernel to kernel.

Resource Efficiency: High heat transfer and the absence of combustion gases lead to a cleaner process.

Versatility: The technology can roast any grains.

Safety: Minimum oxygen content guarantees the use of safe roasting equipment.

We conduct extensive R&D, which is key to offering a large portfolio of specialty malts. This mission relies on our Revtech pilot unit at our headquarters in Wisconsin. Our office staff can attest to these experiments simply by smelling the roasting odors in their offices—a real team effort!

The full range of colors and flavors made possible with our roaster allows us to satisfy any craft brewer’s demand, from kiln malt to black malt, including biscuit malt, and they’re growing in number.

Making our customers happy drives our seasoned team of maltsters to develop more product flexibility and control than ever before. We thank the Revtech team for their support, including remote assistance, and our collaborative work! »
